  1. Yes the noise can heard inside the car, to such an extent that it is embarrassing when driving past pedestrians.
  2. Had this issue last week, the main reason I noticed was the lack of air through the foot or air vents it was as if the selection had jammed on the windscreen setting. Also when you switched off you can hear the motors/servos driving/hunting trying to return to a position but not achieving it. Not being able to take to the dealers and scared that a my satnav overide box had jammed in the mechanism I carefully removed the glove box etc to access the left side of the heater/aircon unit (which was the side the sound was comming from). After putting the unit into diagnostic mode. Diagnostic mode. Hode down the auto and r/f (recircirc/fresh) buttons together while putting the car in ignitio mode, all the lights on this panel should flash together 4 times. After the 4 times press the r/f switch and the unit should cycle through it modes. if you detect no change, mine was stuck on the screen defoggers then its a problem with the upper servo. Press the aircon off switch to get out of this mode. Being of the adventurous disposition I removed the servo and checked its operation. I did take loads of photo's and marked the various gears and lever positions then jammed loads of bluetac in to keep this in position while I removed the plate holding the two servos. What I found was the air selection servo main drive gear had was a few teeth out of sync and the levers driven off the second gear had jammed/jumped . Some 5 hours of head scratching and looking on the online workshop manual( which was no help) I worked out which position the levers had to be in and refitted the holding plate, without the servo so I could manually turn the gears to check the operation order. Once happy all was well I refitted the servos, reconnected the wiring and plugged in the AC controller. After removing the bluetac I did the above test and it worked also the flashing orange front screen light stopped and went into its normal green selection. 1 week later its still good. Do not try this at home, but could help point the dealers in the right direction when you take the car in.
  3. Any news on this problem, mine sounds like a diesel until it warms up. Had it serviced and the dealer said they couldn't reproduce the problem. When I started up and drove away it sounded twice as bad as the is250 loan car. When I got home I dug out a long screwdriver and removed the top engine cover. The noise is the loudest around the rear left quarter of the engine and I believe it to be the mechanical fuel pump on the engine, driven off the left most cam. Could it be the fuel pump?? can the clearance between the cam and fuel pump be tightened up? My symptoms are a tappet type noise worse under light acceleration until the engine is up to operating temperature.
  4. Had the gsd3's on several cars after about 20k they started stepping. Not the quietest to start off with but when the stepping started it was like having military tyres on a landrover.
  5. Just noticed when starting the car the aircon selection flashes the screen defrost for a while and then resets the aircon to 22 deg c and off. Ive also noticed that no air is coming from the face vents or footwell when selected its as if the unit is stuck on the windscreen setting as this is where the air is coming from. Also when the car is switched off you can hear a motor running and stalling as if trying to move something, the noise is coming from behind the satnav screen slightly to the left. The cars still under warranty, would be nice to get it fixed on one visit and not taking it back time after time. Anyone else had this problem with the heating/aircon system. Ta
  6. My IS250 is coming up to 20K and 1 Year old. Recently it has started sounding like a diesel tractor when stated from cold. It seems to pull alright but under load the rattle can be clearly heard inside the car until the engine has warmed up. On closer inspection with a lond screw driver the noise seems to be coming from the left hand side rear end of the engine (around the fuel Pump). The sound is like a very noisy injector. Anybody had the same? Its due in for service next week and would be nice to point the techs in the right direction to save me numerous visits to the dealership. Thanks.
  7. I uploaded the contacts using my old sony eric, not ideal but quicker than updating one by one. The iphone then connects and uses the contacts already uploaded.
  8. Its the hard plastic at the bottom of the dash/center console and around the inside of the dooropenings, it looks dark blue to me but could be black. Off to Halfords tomorrow thx
  9. Does anyone know how to erase scratches on the blue interior trim plastic. The marks are light and not deep, however the plastic in the scratched areas has turned a lighter colour than the surrounding areas. Help
  10. bet they don't use geniune parts, had lots of trouble when I had a focus ghia a few years ago and they tried to fit a non genuine windscreen, the tint didn't match and they tried to tell me it was normal. Keep a close eye on the fitter, putting tools on your roof seems to be common practice.

  18. Anybody got one of these speed shifters fitted, what does it really do?
  19. If you feel round the plastic case you will find the seam where the two halves are joined, inside this seam are 6 clips that need to be pressed in to spring apart the case. These clips are delicate and will break if too much pressure is used. The flat trim tool helps apply even pressure so the outside of the case is not marked. The using another tool to press in the clips while keeping the case apart with the larger tool does the trick. Anyway the point is the mirror has a design fault causing the internals to rattle under certain conditions and should be redesigned and replaced under warranty.
  20. Thx for the info. I ordered the bits which arrived quickly, just need a little time to plan the installation and pull the car to bits. Ill try and photograph the installation and post it when I can. The only problem I can see is the aerial location, which positions gave the best results?
  21. After carefully splitting open the mirror using a flat trim tool I found two wires which could have caused a rattle and a circuit board. I wrapped cloth tape round the wires and put a little extra foam to cushion the circuit board and the rattle has stopped ( touch wood). Sorry no pictures.
  22. Everytime I travel to work it involves passing through the M1 Road Works Between J27 and J26. These road works have a 50mph limit with specs average speed cameras enforcing the speed limit. I usually set the car to 50mph using my roadpilot gps and put on the cruise control. So if i am using the gps speed which should be very accurate, why am I constantly being passed by various cars and the occasional lorry. Are these people going to get tickets through the post or do they know something I do not. What are the tolerances of these average speed cameras? Are they operational? or is the road full of muppets with 3 points pending?
  23. I'm looking at doing the same install, do you have any pictures of the headrests? Also where did you put the tuner and especially the aerials? Thanks in advance. :)
  24. thanks for the info, just need to find out where to put the tuner and aerials, space under the dash seems to be limited.
  25. Mine doesn't visably viberate but under certain conditions rattles, sounding like a rattle in the passenger door panel, a quick squeeze on the left hand side of the mirror stops it for a while. It sounds like the glass or something inside is rattling and I can't see how the mirror is held together to tighten it up. Will be complaining about the mirror when I get time, the windscreen needs changing when it goes in due to a stone chip about 10mm from the screen edge above the mirror causing a 8 inch crack running behind the mirror so I can't see it from inside. I am also getting a little noise round the driver seat when accelerating and braking, going round corners, sounds like something swinging and hitting, not loud but it started a few weeks ago.
