  1. Weather's been nice this past couple of day's, nice for country walks..........nice pint by the fire maybe? (!)
  2. Hi and welcome, W pumps can be expensive on the Lex, but I paid about half that, but it was replaced when I had my cambelt replaced at the same time all done by my local garage.......at your mileage you should check if the belt has been replaced, on here we normally reckon 60-70000 is the time to do this, not 100000 in some datasheets. Cambelt and waterpump are two of the few common routine milage replacements on the IS. Have a search round on here for more info on both the pump, and belts if applicable.
  3. Aha, Coil packs.......I reckon the 1st Gen IS200/300 is an amazing car, 13-14 years on, in design well befrore that, and this forum confirms that they are still (more or less) only giving trouble in known areas. I had a couple of Disco's once (new/nearly new) nothing but trouble all over the car, every damn expensive thing. The only other cars I have owned (I'm an old git) that have been almost trouble free are old style Volvo 240's! Once you get your IS 'right' then they are great to own IMO....and hardly any depreciation.
  4. Hi Can be a number of things, hook up to a diagnostic will give a fault code, others will know more, but in the meantime read my post (about six/seven posts down in the main audio/electronics/security section) and also search around for screen leaks and damp in the footwells. In my case the diagnostic code was not the fault, just water ingress, a few drips only!....... Simple checks first, i could have ended up with a new gearbox sensor (£250) and screen as well, and still no cure....lucky escape for me...with forum help.
  5. Cheers!.......Yep, I was nearly ready to get a new screen !.......an hour upside down in the footwell well spent, and it kept the neighbours amused!!
  6. Hi all, Looks like i can close this off....simulated rain on the passenger side of the screen showed a drip of water off the scuttle onto the large bulkhead grommet behind the battery...water was tracking in via an accessory wire that was put through before I purchased the car (over 5 years ago!), so I have whipped the wire out and screened the grommet (temporary) with duck tape and since then all OK......happy bunny again!!
  7. Just to round this off...good news (and bad!).It rained all day yesterday and so this morning I looked again at all the possibles, no light show(typical) but checked everywhere...all dry until I happened to look at the inside of the plastic cover to the electrics on the passenger footwell side....oh joy! water droplets and a damp bit of carpet. looks like a screen leak then, so I'm off to search the forum for answers or if no joy post on the main IS page...Thanks for looking!!
  8. Hi all, I posted a while back on an error code, which turned out to be the neutral switch on the auto gearbox (IS300 S/C), this turned into an electronics problem, and I tracked it down to probable water ingress. This resulted in me checking the sunroof drainage, footwells, drivers side footwell fusebox, and wells...all for moisture ingress....nothing found, no damp, no smells. Well it seems that after heavyish rain (car standing still) when you get in and start up/ drive off you get a (very pretty) display of about 4 different lights flashing on the dash display...'.cruise' and suchlike....it then often goes off after a mile or two and comes back later. Anyone any more ideas/experience about water problems on the IS ( I have this awful feeling that the dashboard might have to be taken out to check behind) and it seems to be one of those problems that, when you leave it at the garage, there's not a problem to be seen...... If i do book it in I can't decide if a dealer would be better than an electronics expert ?
  9. Yes theres a wee opening lever behind a removable panel on the sportcross, you have to let down the back seats and shimmy back to it to release the tailgate.
  10. Errr, just done my yearly sand and paint (tightwad) refurb, cost £zero (enough paint from last year left over) and 3 hours labour. Result....IMO very acceptable for another year, and more money to spend on proper maintainence....... as I'm not exactly loaded!
  11. fil ! I'm in Derbyshire...was it Lex Derby? Do you reckon I could do the same???
  12. Just seen the pics of the new Jaguar Sportbrake, what an original idea......never seen anything like it.......groundbreaking!
  13. Hi KentIS300, Mine is now checked and still as dry as a British summer!, all drains OK. My alarm problem, a couple of years ago... was mainly it setting off at stupid times 2am etc, in real hot summer weather! After much angst and even checking out a new alarm system, the nice people at Derby Lexus disconnected the roof sensor for me FOC (!!!) and since then no problems with it. My little current (Ha ha!) problem may be sorted week after next when I have the auto lever switch renewed, and other bits attended to. Over 5 years hardly anything has gone wrong, just like the previous IS200, so a little TLC is well worthwhile.
  14. A brilliant reply, full of useful info...... can't ask for more !!!
  15. Thanks ! Yes, I have had experience of the alarm systems 'character' before in the dead of night!, anyhow....battery on charge....if you could indulge me I have had a good look and feel around the drivers footwell/fuses area and as far back as my pinkies will go...bone dry, when charged i will open up the sunroof and have a poke around to hopefully clear the drainage tubes......is there any way you can test if the sunroof drains are working, without turning the car into the world's largest mobile fishtank?!... and where else might one have a peek/feel for the dreaded water?
  16. Ha! The idea was to have a look today, but at 4am this morning, the horns started making a clicking sound, after it got me up and on the drive....no central locking... funny beeping noises from inside the rear nearside wing (alarm location?)......then it went quiet at about 5.30. Well after additional beauty sleep this morning I have been out and the battery is flat. I am working on the water ingress theory after yesterday's deluge, but again the drivers footwell/fuses area is totally dry. Unless you brains can think of anything else, I will charge the battery, get the sunroof open and check the drains as best i can.....
  17. Thanks fjc, I will get that sorted. Nice to know you are still dropping in to help out us cack-handed mortals!!
  18. Hi all, I have a P1780 (Park/Neutral position switch malfunction) with the engine warning light on all the time.....everything works fine, no probs at all......cancelled once but now back on again......what's broke?...and if it ain't broke do I need to fix it ???? !!! Any code experts still out there?
  19. Hi you lot!, I would value your opinion on my Lex's problem (IS300 SC 2002). On starting up I get a suite of warning lights ... VSC / CRUISE / ABS all flash, and the engine light stays on. It's intermittent for the three flashers, but the engine light stays on all the time. I have had a good mosey around for the dreaded water ingress/leaks/screen leak, but she's as dry as a bone inside (incl footwell fuse area)...also not been out in this rain we are all getting, no limp mode etc either. I had an oxy sensor problem a year ago, but that was just the engine light only, not the flashing other lights. Looks like a rare visit to the dealer is called for, but just wondered if anyone had had similar ?
  20. Hay PacificF1, Welcome to the club! Hope you enjoy your sportcross too! Mines a blue 2002, had her for about 5 years, 200 before that (IS200, not 200 cars!) I assume the belt has been replaced on the service history ? If it's a dealer history they can check for you. Also the usuals, tyre wear is worth watching, and search WIM on here for a read.
  21. I have given up with mine (and since the boot mounted player has gone wrong anyway). The system is nearly 15 years old, and IMO outdated and difficult to use. I have disconnected the player and bought a garmin instead.... up to date, easy to use, postcodes, I have added POI etc etc.....I just miss the nice lady's voice telling me off when I apparently go across a field because the disc was out of date!
  22. Hey Wow300....that's what I understood the derivation was too!
  23. Yes Kam 05 the 9000.....thats the one I meant....I was only 7000 out !!!!!!!!
