  1. Good idea, I did do that and I had a few weeks without the problem only for it to come back (twice) to haunt me!. Strangely, maybe coincidence, it only seemed to happen at night, in warm conditions....never got to the bottom of that, I was too fed up losing sleep and explaining to the neighbours.............
  2. I had the same, internal sensor disconnected....no more sleeping with the keys on the bedside table!
  3. You too Mr L ? My 02 sportcross satnav exhibits the same problem,I have tried the same and had a chappie have a look inside too. The technical solution I have found is to use a garmin instead! I have kept a lookout for a secondhand s/c boot unit, but rare expensive and not guaranteed. If the orig satnav was a bit better instead of slow, outdated, and difficult to use (no postcode for instance/expensive discs etc) then I would pay more attention. My realistic option is to retrofix a satnav into the flip up housing...but while I have the Garmin, only occasionally used anyway, I can't bring myself to deal with it. Good luck!
  4. I hate tailgaters, but I often get a smirky look from some bloody youth next to me at the lights....as he sees 'his mum' in the car next to him. I make it my business that the next thing he sees is 'IS300' on the car in front of him!
  5. Thanks, Yes all OK, trying to move house at the moment, and every penny counts! I wonder what the absolute base price would/will be for a really good sportcross? In the past a car like the 200/300 would be a surefire classic, and good ones would be very saleable.....but now lots of people want economical cars (at any cost...Ha!!) will there still be a core of petrolheads....?.
  6. Circumstances have changed for me and I was about to put my S/C on the market for £2500....but I could not bring myself to do it, our lovely camper van is going instead!!
  7. Hi all, Exhaust went yesterday, so after 10 years of IS this is a first for me. I know nothing about the exhaust, but I put it on a pair of ramps this morning and in the middle of the car is a longish slender box (is this a resonator?) which tapers at both ends. At the rear end, right at the end of the taper, it has become wholly detached from the back pipe. I assume that the orig box part was attached on the pipe, so it seems I would need the long pipe, right back to the rear.......make sense or new full exhaust? Is it SS now? Would it break my piggy bank????
  8. OOoooooohhh, get a picci of the finshed car up quick, same car as mine, a blue sportcross.......might get me going!
  9. Hi Amy, welcome to the forum. Yep the 200 is not especially fast, but some drivers fail to realise that there is a marked power band at about 3500/4000 rpm, try going thro the gears using the tacho to hit the revs. I had a brill 200 for a few years, and then went for an IS300 for the bigger engine. Enjoy yourself!
  10. My sportcross is 2002, with topside 90000 on the clock. I have had the car for about six years now and there has been no noticable deterioration in that time either in the body (unlike mine) or the engine...which has been effectively faultless. I suggest as above, that it is the individual car that matters.....and no, mine,s NOT for sale !!
  11. For goodness sake, get off yer bums you lot!!!! and do it yourselves...you will be using electric tyre pumps next!!!. Thoroughly wet the car to loosen the muck, wash it from the top down and hose off fairly gently from the top down, cills and wheels last. Polish off with a chammy if you want to....avoid washing in the sun ( what SUN???????) Good for your abs, gloots and other bits........!
  12. Washing up liquid contains varying amounts of salt.......Panya right.....not good!
  13. Hmmmm, A Nissan Figaro (Figgi) turbo'd as standard A Bristol (Aluminium bodied V8 classic) A Volvo 164E Quite like those new Toyota GT's Jensen Interceptor V8 4WD in association with all of the above....my own service, petrol and repair garage!
  14. If it's the same as my 300, I gave mine a good sucky vaccum with the crevice tool (input side) and it came up a treat so I put it back in...I have a standard paper type.....I will change it at some stage though, I buy them off the interweb, bought one off a dealer in Wales a while back and it cost a bloomin fortune!
  15. The way to this for me has been internet radio, if you have an ipad or touch stick it on a player or through your stereo, and it opens up thousands of free stations. many of them are music only (but have playlists so you can see what the music is) many of them eclectic. My current faves are : FIP radio (radio france) Blues club (german...blues R&B rock) 10 Radio (community station with folk/blues/R&B/world) etc At christmas there are loads of stations streaming continuous christmas music....anything you want even american country music if you are desperate! You need the 'Tune In pro' app for this (not expensive, and there is a freebie)
  16. Been there Rory............ended up buying another bloomin Lexus! Looking at your 3 criteria, your Lex fulfills two of them...on economy do the sums based on your mileage, but don't forget you will probably incur more depreciation with a 5K car. Now and then we all fancy a change...I was looking at a 17K merc last Wednesday...until I regained my sanity! Give your most excellent car a clean, maybe some new mats, then go to a quiet straight road and put your foot flat down from rest (to 60mph and no more of course). Have a nice pint, a kebab and you should feel better in the morning!
  17. Resurrected topic I see......have a look at the list of cars that now attract zero tax or very little tax, it's very very big....so if I was dear Gideon (that's his name...look it up) our chancellor, I would be looking to restructure the tax bands from the bottom up soon, or income would be dropping........watch that space!
  18. Yes! I had forgotten about this, and forgotten to check with the dealer on mine, deffo done in the US and you have a sticker...I want one !!!
  19. Just worth mentioning that you should have a little spring behind the accelerator pedal, when you push on the pedal initially the spring compresses and dampens the throttle response....it is not an uncommon mod (esp in the US apparently) to block out this spring to give an instant response. I decided not to do this as it can cause wheelspin/tyre wear apparently, and i might whittle about telling the insurers too.
  20. Hi Marsis, On the IS200 manual to get the most from the engine you need to go up through the gears, to try and keep the revs in the 3000-4500rpm band as this is where the power is. if you start off from rest with your foot fully down, keep an eye on what happens to the acceleration at that rpm range, it should be noticably faster than the lower revs...so it's down to how you drive it. On an auto this is still there, but you need to use kickdown to access that rev range properly.
  21. Thank goodness others dont like it, the front looks like some cheapo overstyled eurobox to me, obviously Lexus want to drop it's premium tag and compete with other cheapo Jap makes......could it look better in the flesh inside and out? probably not.....I suppose I could buy one and put a complete restyled body on it.....Nah!
  22. Well done me duck, These lights are all over the place now, I saw a new Range Rover last week with just plain tacky individual led's scattered around the place (mind you new RR's are just plain tacky these days anyway) IMO !!
  23. Hi IS200mk, welcome to the club.....and a merry time from.........................................NOW!!!!!

    Hi All!

Hi and welcome, All the knowledge on here! Brill cars if you let them grow on you, and you are past the 'keep swopping' stage. Ive had a superb 200, and now a just brilliant 300sx.......8 years in total. Almost zero depreciation compensates for 'ok' mpg, I could afford a new car being an old git, but I just look...turn up my nose, and walk away muttering. If i need reminding why I press the power button, floor the pedal from standing, and just feel a dreamy continuous smooth power acceleration till I bottle out...pure class. On the 200 the key to that is to get the tacho up around 4000rpm, that's where you feel the difference!
