Cat Back Exhaust And Warranty - For Those Who May Be Concerned

Recommended Posts

For anyone worried about a cat back exhaust invalidating the Lexus extended warranty policy.... It doesn't, I called the Lexus extended warranty company directly and it is viewed as an enhancement to an existing part as the cats are retained :)

Thanks Stu that's handy to know for future reference.

Be interested to know what peoples experiences have been regarding insurance companies views on this enhancement even though its not for performance?

Never bothered me at all when pooling along. That was the main consideration when I asked for the system to be made. My daughter slept in the car many times with the system fitted. You hear it under load but it's not invasive unless it boot it.

I am very keen on getting the exhaust too. I wonder if there is any scope for a discount if a few of us get them? I am either toying with the idea of the H&S or Gib has been in contact with a German based manufacturer so I'll drop him a line to see if they can offer something that sounds even better.

Hey up. The exhaust I am trying to source is by an Australian company called X Force but the nearest stockist is in Germany. They offer a standard version and one with the Varex mufflers (backboxes) which have switchable butterfly valves in them.

The design of the exhaust is essentially a copy of the Joe Z one - http://www.motoiq.com/MagazineArticles/ID/1853/Project-Lexus-IS-F-Part-2-We-test-the-PTS--Joe-Z-Series-Exhaust.aspx which is highly rated across the pond but the price of the Joe Z is significantly higher especially once shipping has been factored in.

There is more info on the standard exhaust here - http://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-f-2008-2014/807026-new-budget-exhaust-on-the-market.html and more info on the mufflers here - http://www.xforce.com.au/products/varex-mufflers

So far I have contacted the German, American and Turkish stockists. The German and Turkish stockists said they would get back to me with a price but haven't replied to my subsequent emails. The American stockist didn't even bother replying to my initial email. I'll be giving the German stockist a call next week to see if they can get me a price.

If they can't then I will be having a word with some local exhaust specialists to see if they can replicate the design. My issue is I've not heard any of these systems in the flesh so the only reference point I have is the multiple Youtube videos out there. I'm trying to find the balance between volume and refinement. I don't want it to be too loud and definetly don't want any drone at cruising speeds.

Why not just go for the h&s system which seems to be highly rated by quite a few members on here

Distance. They are around 4 hours drive away from me and I don't have the time for a roadtrip.

When i rang them they said they need the car for 3 days, why is this? I was hoping i could wait around while they do it as im in Surrey so bit

of a mission to get there and back without a car

If not ill see if they can post it to me and get it fitted locally

Yes it takes 3 days or so and would be better if it didn't but they make them to suit each car almost as a one off. I don't   think there is a pattern as such as there isn't the volume however give them the time, go to the effort and you will be rewarded

I need something that will keep the neighbours happy as I do head out of the house at late hours every now and then. That's why I am trying to source the X Force system with the adjustable backboxes.

So in summary... Screw the neighbours!

It's a lovely reminder for them first thing in the morning that they shouldn't have bought a diseasel golf.

So looks like a few of us are going for this.

Anyone up for a takeda intake? Could be handy to do a group buy on that with an American supplier.
