Odometer

I have a V8 soarer on which the electronic odometer had been changed out for a scrap one becuase the original failed. (before i bought it) . Anyway, the odometer is showing a very high mileage, but the documentation relating to car before the dash was swapped out (previous MOT's etc), is showing a pretty low mileage, so i do believe the actual mileage is much lower. Does the car itself hold the actual mileage somewhere, and is there a way to synchronise the odometer to that, rather than the inherited mileage from the donor car? I've had conflicting stories on whether it's possible.

thanks.

when you say the old one failed do you mean it stopped working? That was probably blinkey dash... parts cost £5 and someone with professional soldering skills could have changed it in minutes.

There is a way of chaging the odometer as mine has been converted. Try and look for a local Jap import company.

Yup, they can be programmed. Not synchronised with anyhing else in the car, literally just plugging in a computer and changing it.

I don't believe anyone has had it done outside of Japan though, so you may be lucky to find somewhere to do it.

There are ususally adverts around in car mags that offer to 'adjust' your mileage. You could try them to start with.

If you really want it done, then RevTech in Milton Keynes can do it. Back in 2001, the previous owner of my Soarer had the kph to mph conversion done there (£150). Seems RevTech offered to adjust the odometer reading from it's Km total to the equivalent miles total at the same time, but the owner declined cos it would have cost him another £250!

I'm having my odometer re-counted to miles from Kilometres pretty much as I write this by Protech near Bristol, www.protech-uk.co.uk

I'm being charged £70 but that's on top of other work that requires the dash to be taken out. Not sure if the price would be any different for it to be done as a single job on it's own.
