Front Differential Oil Change - 200t FWD

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I own a 2015 Lexus NX200t FWD.
I was advised by a Lexus dealer to change front differential fluids in the upcoming service.
I went to a different authorized Lexus dealer to do the service and he said there is no way to change the fluids alone in the front differential because it’s part of the transmission.

To me it does not makes sense but can someone tell for sure?

Thanks!

Presumably the first dealer meant changing the transmission fluid? As the transmission and differential are one unit it would make sense. The second dealer didn't say they don't change the fluid, just that one cannot change just the differential.

I imagine the first dealer got confused with the rear diff on the AWD version.

The FWD variant only has the front diff that is part of the transmission (transaxle). You would need to check your service schedule but I don't think the transmission fluid has a service interval (lifetime fill from factory).

The first dealer changed “Front/Rear differential fluid 75W90” back in 2019 when the car was owned by the first owner. I want to know if he got ripped off.

From what I found doing a quick research is that the transmission fluids should be changed every 30K miles.

When I asked the first dealer specifically about the transmission fluids he said it should never be replaced so Im a bit confused.

Is that what it states in your warranty/service schedule book that came with the vehicle?

Nope, haven’t checked the book.

It’s what the dealer that the car was bought from said.

So I checked the book.

It says replace front differential oil every 24 months and replace Transmission oil every 24 months as well.

It seems to be different parts 🤦🏻
