Hi

I finally took the plunge and bought a 2020 RX450h Takumi from Listers ,aka Lexus Cheletenham, to replace my Jaguar F Pace 3.0.

So far very pleased and still learning about all the equipment that is on the vehicle.

It will not be used that regularly and in the past I have had my car connected to a Battery conditioner with good results. Does anyone know if there is any reason why I cannot do the same with a Lexus? I ask because I do not know if the 12v (car)battery is connected to the hybrid system or if it works in a manner similar to a conventional ICE.

Thank you in advance for any replies

Owen

Hi Owen.

I hook my GS 300h up to my c-tek periodically which does have the setting for AGM type 12v batteries.

The traction Battery is separate from the 12v auxiliary Battery which in any event only boots up the  computers to get car into Ready mode after which the traction Battery takes over charging the 12v.

Hope this helps a little bit.

Welcome Owen,

You are completely safe connecting your vehicle's 12v Battery to a trickle charger,(and you'll find that the smaller Battery fitted to the RX450 has a lower capacity than most cars, (it's function being to power systems rather than start the car)).

This means that if you use the vehicle infrequently, the equipment drain on the Battery will be greater than for most ICE cars, and the facility to use a trickle charger will be most beneficial.
