Fitting non-OEM tyre size in the rear

Recommended Posts

Hi folks!

I've damaged my two rear tyres yesterday and I need to order a replacement that will do a bit better in snow.
I want to get the Michelin Cross Climate 2's and they come in the correct size for the front but not the rear.
OEM rear is 255/35/18, the closest sizes in which Cross Climate 2's are available is 245/40/18 or 235/40/18.

That's like 17mm difference in diameter for the 245 and 10mm for 235, I know the speedo will be marginally off but would it cause any issues with rubbing or ABS errors?
I contacted my insurance company, they're fine with it.

If you're going all-season, you should really have all 4.... the same, I would suggest.

The mighty tyre gurus here will also have a view I am sure.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely swapping all four, should have been more specific.
I just placed more emphasis on the rears as they're the ones that don't have my specific size available.

I run 235 35 19 all around for over 3 years. Not an issue.

It won't effect your speedometer anything worth as they are factory set to read over anyway

I'd consider 4 wheel alignment not because the tyre size changes but the fact you managed to do damage
