CT Subwoofer retrofit

The CT we have has sub from factory, but adding a sub is not difficult if knowing what to do. Line out can be taken from head unit to feed amplifier for a subwoofer and there probably is enough room in the trunk for both. Remember a subwoofer needs some power and 12V supply wires shall not be thin and not be long. A capacitor (1F) is a good thing for amplifier for a sub. If sub shall not sound muddy speaker wires from amplifier to sub shall not be long and amplifier must be able to retract cone as fast as it push cone forward.

Any competent audio installation shop will know what I have written mean.

If you don't have a sub then your headunit has a built in amp and no line level output. Only the vehicles with a sub has a separate amp.

Potentially you could use an active sub with a high level input but I'm not sure if the low frequencies are output from the headunit or filtered out.

Which is why you will need a competent audio installation shop to get the full signal before it is reduced in the head unit so it does not to make midrange speakers sound blurry. Same reason as a sub amplifier needs to be able to pull sub cone back as fast as it is pushed forward to make the deep sound clear and sharp.
