Lexus Roadside Assistance Renewal no more Direct Debit?

Hello

I called Lexus Roadside Assistance to see if last years direct debit was still active and I was told by the lady on the phone, there was no more Direct Debit as Lexus had stopped it for everyone  due to complaints and now and  only card payment via  phone or online was now accepted.

Is this accurate and also, why would Lexus stop taking Direct Debit, as I thought it would be easier for them as a company?

Yes, that's true. They told me they would send a reminder in plenty of time but no idea as to why Lexus would stop payment by DD.

Can you imagine the situation where a Lexus owner has either sold their car, (however improbable that may be!), or taken out a different Roadside retailer, or forgotten that a direct debit was due, and then kicked up a fuss because money had disappeared from their account (etc etc)

I know we should all react in good time to email/text reminders, but I'm amazed at how many folk don't pay proper attention to reminders.

I think this must something specific to the roadside assistance (possibly complaints due to the recent price hike), rather than an issue with direct debits in general,  as I pay my extended warranty by direct debit and nothing has been mentioned.
