GSF…just started making a very loud buzz at higher revs

Recommended Posts

My GSF all of a sudden has started a very loud buzzing sound under heavy acceleration as the revs climb. It seems to come from the satnav area but it is difficult to analyse as the revs have to be quite high with the engine under considerable load (in other words when ‘giving it some’!) so you’d be reaching VERY high speeds in order to sustain the sound - it accelerates too quickly through the offending rev range in the lower gears for the to be present for more than a second or two.

Anyone else had similar? Thanks

Can you try putting it into manual mode and holding the revs high but at low throttle - would give an idea if it is related to engine load vs rpm.

Also what drive mode are you in?

Ive been using manual in the way you suggest, but it only occurs with the engine under quite heavy load at higher revs (it doesn’t really occur with a light throttle) so you have to accelerate pretty hard to hear it, i.e a combination of both high revs and high throttle.

An autobahn would be handy so you could sustain a high throttle position at high revs in a higher gear which would maintain the sound long enough to analyse the source of the noise….you’d need to be be going very fast.

In the lower gears with the amount of throttle needed to hear it you accelerate too quickly…it sounds only for an instant as it passes through the relevant rpm.

Thinking about it though, using a rolling road/dyno would probably be ideal….and keep my license intact! I might look into that.

So far Ive noticed it in Sport+ (and possibly Sport), ie when driving the car quite hard.👍🏼

Wonder if it's the speaker for the active sound thingy. Have you tried button off? Doesn't the ASC only work in Sport (and+) and possibly why you've not heard it in normal.

Just a thought.

I'll give it a try...I believe that as you say asc only works in the sports modes. I'll also try it properly in Normal mode as I'm not sure I've driven it hard enough in normal to rule it out in that mode. Thanks 👍🏼

A bit of a long shot but do you have the ‘Lexus’ Nextbase front dash cam fitted ? Mine suffered a buzzing noise under similar situations and it turned out to be the big Wi-Fi button on the camera. It stopped when the camera was removed.
I wedged a tiny bit of foam in the space around the button and it solved the problem.

Mine is  currently suffering with a (frustratingly) intermittent  metal clanging noise from the right rear passenger seat area. I thought that it was our car booster seats at first but it still happens when they are removed. Nothing in the boot, tools secure, it didn’t happen when the car went in to Lexus for the fuel recall. Extremely frustrating.
