VSC / Hybrid error rx400h

This error pairing has just appeared on my 2006 400h.

My current code reader isn't giving me any joy on the codes, but will briefly clear the issue. (For about 5secs)

Battery voltage is 13ish when running, mid 11 when off.

I've seen techstream mentioned, can anyone recommend one I can buy?

Any hints or suggestions on where to start with tests/fixes?

With the ignition off then Battery voltage should be around 12.6+; running should be in the range of 13.5-14.5. Mid 11 is well under 50% capacity, so I'd suggest the Battery as the most likely cause of the issue.

If it's an old Battery then replace it, or if newer and reccently discharged, then try charging it up fully.

Replaced the Battery this afternoon, and whilst it has brought the voltages to within acceptable levels I am still getting the error.

Can anyone recommend a code reader that's compatible with the Rx400h/gives techstream level data?

Tempted to give it a test drive later to see if I can flag anything else via the real time stream on the current tool.

That could be just a stored error code, you need the code reader to be certain.

I've just talked to the local Toyota dealer (4 miles away) and they are willing to plug it in and see if they can get any stored codes from it.

Really nice guys, turns out they are a GR specialist so can take the Supra there as well! 🙂

Diagnostics have identified the following code: 

P0A05 - which is the inverter coolant pump

Not the best news, but it could have been worse!

I will do some investigation this evening and see if I can see anything visibly wrong with it, or possibly a duff relay/blown fuse?  (Hope springs eternal....)

More than one person on here has had the pump pack up due to seized or broken bearings so may be worth stripping it down once you've got it out.

Given how crappy the weather is at the moment I have caved in and will be taking it to a local firm who can fit the pump in the dry!

(It's a 15min trip, so hopefully won't cook anything!)

Keep us posted on smoothness of the operation and final price – this is a useful one to know. And any other sharp intakes of air and head scratching by the garagista. Good luck.

All done and dusted in about 90mins - and typically the weather was fine today as well!

Generally a straigtforward operation, although they are not 100% certain how well they bled the system once finished - so have requested I keep an eye on it.  

The old pump had actually seized completely.  (So take note, roughly the same time as your rear wiper starts to seize up you need to go pump shopping!)
