frozen doors

Biggest test so far with overnight temperature of minus 6 but doors opened without an issue so the revised handles do work!

That said I was charging the car and couldn't get the charge port flap to close due to a build up of ice!!!😨😫😱

I'm looking forward to getting my new door handles next month (well 3 anyway, the fourth hasn't arrived!). Unfortunately,  I've had the frozen  charge port flap a few times last year and this, and now it doesn't open or close properly whatever the weather. Hopefully just an adjustment that will get done when I  go in for the door handles. With a 300 miles plus round trip to the dealer, I could do without these little snags. Still love my car overall though.

@RXtoNX It's a regular 'thing' with mine, unfortunately. It'll work perfectly well for a bit but then it'll go several days at a time where it just refuses to work. I can stand right next to the car and get the same message. Yet, as what happened when it was only a few weeks old, I can stand in the middle of a field, the best part of 300yds away and it worked perfectly. 🤔 🤷‍♂️ So yes, as @Hayzee says, I don't think it's down to distance.

It's all academic at the moment as I had these this morning - after my phone decided to update itself overnight. No options for remote climate - just an immediate error message and not being able to detect anything about the car other than what it is:

Pfffffff..... 🤦‍♂️ I literally have no words...! Well, I do have words to describe this app - but if I actually spoke my mind on here, I'd likely end up with at least a warning so I'll keep those choice words to myself!

Anyway - in better news in this freezing weather... Still no issues at all with regards to the door handles. It's been faultless over the course of this week. I've had slightly 'sticky' doors caused by the ice and frozen washer jets this morning, but the actual door handle pressure pad things, which many owners have issues with, are all fine on mine. 👍

Had my handles changed yesterday, excellent service as always from the team at Leicester.

Discussed the cause and changes to rectify the problem so looking forward to easy entry to the car for the rest of the winter

I’d definitely recommend getting them changed as soon as you get an inkling of an issue

Just had our 350h serviced and was advised that Lexus are aware of the frozen door issue and a factory issued part will be fitted to all vehicles in due course.

I would still make a positive request for the work to be done though. It won't be a recall as it is not a safety issue and, because the parts are coloured, your dealer needs to order them specifically for your colour of car. They are unlikely to have them in stock and mine have taken over a month to arrive (well 3 of the 4 have been delivered!).

Called my dealer again today. Proactive is the only way that works for me and my dealer. Problem acknowledged at last and he advises “parts will be here in March”! Just in time for Spring.
I booked in for 21 March. The end is hopefully in sight.
lets see…

Ken I use a charging port cover every time I charge the car and it seems to avoid any ice build up in sub zero conditions and keeps it dry should it rain.

I reckon as it's not a recall the dealership gets less favourable remuneration for the work. I may be wrong of course.

That may be the case. All I can say is the dealer would not recognise the bulletin number quoted on this forum, to my surprise. He would not budge until finally Lexus UK authorised for payment. One would imagine that this should be or have been a recall, given the numbers on this forum alone. Either way, I’m glad that things are moving forward, albeit not fast enough for this guy, this winter!

Hi,

Where did you get the charging port cover from? Is it a Lexus part?

Many thanks.

No it's not a Lexus part and as Ken says above plenty available on amazon and eBay also. Fortunately as the port isn't particularly large there are a lot of options.

I once had the frozen door problem early one morning after a good night on the Rioja followed by some dubious liqueurs.

I finally got the door open but could not find the ignition button, or the seat or the steering wheel, then I realised I was in the fridge.  I have since had my meds upgraded.
