i have recently aquired a '95 gs300 and have noticed ia m loosing small amounts of water. there is some evidence of a leak around the rad cap so i changed the cap as a precaution, but the problem is still evident? the temp gauge sits at its normal postion all the time so its not overheating. any ideas would be gratefully received.

many thanks

Hi Phil,

Welcome to the club!

Do you find the top of the rad that it is plastic and is crackled?

Not cheap to replace a rad and the top part of the rad is not repairable.. however.. I have had a leak in mine for over 2 years... I just keep checking it every week and only loose half a cup full a week.

I reckon a new rad be in the region of £200 + Vodka & Tonic (VAT)

i had the same prob on my old car but when i put the cap back on the other way round - writing facing away from me the leak stopped! wierd.

but do have a good look at the lip on the rad cap mating faces - to make sure get a steel ruler and run the edge along the top, you can then see if there is a little gap.

it is definately leaking sightly as i can see traces of coolant around the filler area. its a recon rad as well. cant see no crackling on the rad either. i will turn the cap around and see if that stops it!! its in for a service in a week or two so will get lexus to have a look as well.

cheers for your help.
