Rear wiper noise

Featured Replies

I have just been to halfords and the kind lady behind the desk let me try new one before buying to see if it's the wiper and unfortunately noise continued with a brand new wiper. Please can someone advise me what to do and where this noise may be coming from?

Sounds like the screen just needs a clean? Have you lifted the arm up and tried it just to confirm?

Yes. It didn't make any difference.

Oh dear. WD40 down the shaft maybe?

Sorry, I'm not being much help to you then! Hopefully someone else will come up with an answer for you.

@ColinBarber

Please can you help me?

Back to basics:-

1) Have you cleaned the rear screen properly - then tried it?

2) Have you lifted the wiper away from the screen AND then tried the rear wiper ( with the wiper not touching the screen?)

Have you actually done these things?

I'll also step into the breach Mr BeFourYouTwo to give @ColinBarber a break, I expect he needs a holiday!

On this new thread topic, from which I must not tempt myself to digress, I suggest that you allow the WD40 time to do its work & let it lubricate the rear wiper arm mechanism.  On such an old car the moving parts are probably reacting to years of misuse, neglect or both, rather like some of your other publicised issues.

It should go without saying that you must NOT use lubricant on either the wiper rubber or the screen, but I'll mention it anyway!

Believe it or not my 400h was emitting an even worse 'grinding' noise emanating from the base of the wiper arm which is almost certainly from where your noise is coming. I gave mine regular doses (not excessive mind!) of WD40 over several days & the noise is no more.

If the noise continues to persist then the entire wiper assembly might need to be removed for a proper dose of grease, an action that I would NOT suggest you do yourself for risk of damaging the screen glass which is an integral element. Obviously.

If you still think you're stuck then I would earnestly suggest a comprehensive time & motion research of this Forum (and probably YouTube as well!) as the answer to most questions can be found by using a little time & diligence like most Members tend to do.

Good Luck bud.

surprise surprise now i just went outside with WD40 in my hand to spray it again but there was no noise..... happy days!

Long may it last.......gosh....these cars definitely have a mind of their own which don't make any sense at all.

I just wish all these little niggles didn't happen in the first place (despite the fact my car is almost 18 years old)

It is 18 years old - even a Lexus will get issues. It is not a new car.

I know that but want everything to be the best it possibly can.

Seriously - given the pages of posts about your car, are you sure you did the right thing buying one 18 years old???

Whilst not wishing to appear to criticise any Lexus driver for worrying about their cars making strange noises - I'm the very much the same I hasten to add - but I strongly suspect that Lexus drivers have become sooooooo used to a quiet and stress-free ride that any noise...no matter how small or seemingly insignificant - will set alarm bells ringing.  What's the betting such threads on a Lexus forum outnumber the strange noise threads on a Ford owners' forum? (as Ford drivers have to quickly get used to strange noises - nothing against Ford drivers...I've had 3 in my time)😆

But you’re clearly not confident hands on with cars going by most of your posts so buying an old car like you have basically is unlikely to end well? I see you’ve posted a new thread tonight about a rattle under the dash. They can be fun chasing down but whatever you do - even considering a Lexus garage is hari kiri. You need to do some legwork and find a Lexus independent in your area otherwise this cheap old car is going to morph into an expensive old car.

I am really enjoying the car but there are a few niggles (to be expected with a car of this age)

A sensible first Lexus.

Unfortunately this has started happening again 😕 😞

On and off which makes me wonder what is the cause.

Problem is intermittent....🤷

Any advice or suggestions to make other than above?

Maybe needs WD40 every few months, maybe a lubricating spray of Oil would last longer.
