Message: I work for Fifth Gear, the Channel Five motoring programme.

We are now commencing work on the Autumn series and one of the subjects we hope to explore is the cost of UK car parts.

As part of the investigation we are trying to locate some of the most outrageous car part prices charged by main dealers; for example, a simple fixing or piece of pipe that might cost a few pence to manufacture, but is charged out at a wildly inflated rate. Alternatively, a slightly more complex part (perhaps electronic), which by virtue of its cost, could render a relatively new car (10 years or less) uneconomic to repair.

We are also interested to discover whether anyone has encountered similarly inflated charges for fitting a simple item, e.g. a standard bulb, or perhaps something even more ridiculous.

I would be very grateful if any members of the club could contact me, by email or telephone, if they have any stories to tell. We must, incidently, be able to determine the part.
