Lcd Touchscreen

Recommended Posts

Evening all,

Does anyone know of anyone who has completed a car computer project in a lexus is 200. I am looking at removing the original audio devices i.e. the cd and tape player which is roughly 7" wide by 5" high which is perfect for a lillyput 7" touchscreen monitor. I will then be looking at building an itx controlled pc in the boot. My problem is, will I be able to link up my car puter to the current wiring loom without causing to many probs. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Thats looking really nice mate. What are you doing with your heated seat and traction control buttons?

I was also thinking of removing them and also powering them from the touch screen using Macro's, will be complicated but am gonna have a go. My only problem is my car already has sat nav built in and apparently removing the original head unit will stop the nav from working correctly. I want the original nav to work but want the TFT screen to control the whole car including nav, music, videos etc. Do you have a blueprint of your wiring diagram that you used to connect the P.C to the car?

Thanks

I'm undertaking a similar project, I'm obtaining a satnav housing, and fitting my lilliput in there, replacing stock hu with a Pioneer DEX-P9R :)

I'll run the PC through the aux input, got an invertor from Maplin for a more stable psu for PC.

I wouldnt use the inverter, its much better to get a nice car pc psu like an Opus as this will give you less interference, and also will shut down or put the computer into standby when you turn off the ignition.

Hello Bratt, made a decision on springs yet? ;)

Anyway, Invertor, yes, I agree, BUT I have one of these which runs off 14v, not 12v.. so I decided an invertor would be a better way to go... I might be wrong. I'm going to put a deep cycle Battery in boot on a split charge system, which I'm hoping will provide a little stability. As for startup & shutdown, I'm putting a 'START' button in the cig lighter which I can use to shutdown & start pc. MediaCar has a shutdown button on screen, as does MediaEngine & I believe Frodoplayer does too, but not looked at that yet.

Wouldn't something like this be better than an invertor. It's seems a waste to go from

DC to AC to power something that uses DC anyway.

im gona do away with the heat seat switches, dont use em.. and i will be relocating the TRC button...

I also have the oem sat nav,, most people in the US simply extended the wires so they could put the stock headunit inthe boot..however im gona do it a bit different,, will let you know if it works..
