can anyone assist please,

im trying to put pics from my comp into my gaage and gallery but i keep getting the error that the pics are too big, the photos were taken on my digital camera and most are about 500-700kb in size which is too big for the system.

how can i make them smaller in size so i can upload them.

also how can you get your avatar to look right ive been trying for hours :duh:
