Hi all

This morning I started my '94 LS400 and drove 5 miles to work but the car was making a strange noise from the engine bay area.It sounded like that whistling you sometimes get through the radio when you accelerate(Although the radio was off as well as the wipers lights and heater A/ C). It wouldn't go away and was also doing it while stationary and increased in pitch and volume on acceleration . When I got to work the noise had almost gone. I checked under the bonnet but nothing seemed out of the ordinary but I couldn't locate the sound. I drove 200 miles after work so it couldn't have been too serious but has anyone got any ideas as to what it was or had similar whistling?

Can sometimes be the alternator under load - did you have a lot of electrics switched on?

I turned everything off mate, lights, fan, radio. The engine was the only draw on the electrics really.

Yeah, it sounded like Jimmy Somerville or maybe Minnie Ripperton under hard throttle. :winky:

Hi - Did you ever find out what the problem was - my ls400 (also a 94) has done exactly the same the last 2 days......would be interested if you found out what the problem was....

Reading your post was like a dejavue as I did exactly the same (turned off all the electrics, checked under the hood)....

My LS400 doesn't whistle as such, but it has been known occasionally to fart.

Well. That's who i'm blaming anyway!
