Charging For Wheel Alignment...

Recommended Posts

Just had a voicemail from my local Lexus centre....

Lexus are going to replace my steering column under warranty - but want to charge me £200 for the wheel alignment "which needs to be done because we're doing the steering".

Even if wheel alignment is considered "normal maintenance" given that they've said it needs to be done as a result of the warranty repair it should be covered by the warranty - at least according to their website.

Has anyone else had similar? What happened in the end?

if they are replacing the column as part of the warranty then that should also include anything that may be affected by doing that job , in this case the alignment etc, but for £200 it must be a full 4 wheel alignment and not just the tracking.

speak with the dealer ask them to explain why then if u get nowhere speak with HQ, still no joy take the car elsewhere for the alignment, it will be about £50 ish

if the column is warranty then so is the alignment, how would you react if when a tyre was fitted they did'nt put any air in it, would you concider that to be extra or just part of the same job....kin tell them!!!!

The result for anyone whose interested....

When I spoke to Lexus Twickenham and explained that I believed that the wheel alignment should be covered by the warranty I was simply told that their insurance company said it wouldn't pay for it. They made no attempt to disagree with my interpretation of the [bloody clear] waranty. So much for customer service - just got a **** "more than my jobs worth" type response - what do I care what *their* insurance company says, will they uphold my warranty? Crap.

So gave Lexus UK a ring - explained the situation. Heard again from dealer in the morning.... suddenly they could do the alignment of the front two wheels under the warranty, but not the rears which they "recommended" I had done at the same time. Booked in for the warranty work and declined the rear wheel alignment.

They replaced the steering rack today... and when I picked up the car gave me a nice little printout from the wheel alignment process - before & after where they'd aligned all four wheels!

Oh well... guess it's the result that counts....
