Boot Lid

When I press the boot lid release button on my keyfob, my bootlid just pops open an inch or so.

Is this correct or should it open fully?

Mine just "pops" and doesn't open fully.

You can adjust the springs inside if you want to, but I don't think you'll get it to open fully.

The spring limits the rate the lid closes. The boot will only pop open, it is not meant to fully open.

Mine opens about 1/2 way. Apparently this is correct for if it's raining ect.

You guys are lucky.

On my MK1 GS I have to use the key and use the boot spoiler to raise the bootlid.

Think I need some new gas struts or maybe am missing something in the opening mechanism.

Any Mk1 GS owners able to comment?

Yes keith, the MK1's should also pop open a bit when you use the boot release inside the car, or use the key in the rear lock, unfortunately its a design defect, the mk1's only use gas struts to hold the boot, and they leak after a while. You'll probably notice the bootlid feels really heavy and slams shut on you if you're not careful, i have the same problem, the gas struts are £55 each from lexus and theres two of them, be advisable to replace both, just in case you wondered

Back on track.... my brothers boot lid use to fully open on his IS300 Sport, dunno if it still does, or any other IS oweners can comment...
