Yes keith, the MK1's should also pop open a bit when you use the boot release inside the car, or use the key in the rear lock, unfortunately its a design defect, the mk1's only use gas struts to hold the boot, and they leak after a while. You'll probably notice the bootlid feels really heavy and slams shut on you if you're not careful, i have the same problem, the gas struts are £55 each from lexus and theres two of them, be advisable to replace both, just in case you wondered

Back on track.... my brothers boot lid use to fully open on his IS300 Sport, dunno if it still does, or any other IS oweners can comment...
