New Owner Gs300 (late 1998) Alarm Help Please

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I purchased my very 1st lexus today and am absolutely over the moon!!! However despite reading the manuals literally from cover to cover I am somewhat confused at the various alarm "Arming" combinations. The manual only mentions pressing the lock button on the key and 30 seconds later the alram will arm.... Ok so far and this works fine, however if I keep the button pressed the car "beeps" once and the indicators blink once. If I press the button again the car "beeps" again but this time the indicators blink 5 times?

So my question is this,

What does the "beep" indicate?

What is the Second Setting for? (with & without the beep)

The manual makes no mention of these scenarios so I would welcome some words from the wise amongst you.

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section, but i'm new to Forums and Lexus, but hopefully not for long.

Any help would be much appreciated as I will probably sit in the window all night, watching my new baby and wondering if the alarm is set.

Regards Nigel

Hi

You don't say whether yours is a Mk2, but assuming it is.

Pressing and holding the arm button will close all windows and sunroof, if they are open, and locks the car, sets the alarm.

Pressing and holding the Unarm button will open windows and sunroof after the car unlocks.

Second press of arm disables the internal sensors.

Thanks for the reply and the explanation of the internal sensors, Yes it is a Mk2 BTW, but i'm still confused, I.E. if I press [lock] quickly car locks etc (NO beep), but if i hold for longer than approx 1/2 second the car "beeps", is the beep significant? or is this just to tell me its attempting to close windows etc?

Sorry for sounding like a complete idiot, I just like to know these things - Sad I know, i'm not an anorak honest lol

Yes mate - the beep is telling you that it's trying to close the windows.

And you don't sound like an idiot at all.

  • 1 month later...

What do the interior sensors do? I have a dog which gets left in the car from time to time and she has never set the alarm off (unlike a Renault 3litre I had a few years ago!) so they obviously do not include a moyion sensor - or do they!!! and mine doesn't work?

Just went and sat in mine with the alram on and after the obligatory 30 seconds I waved (Technical term), my arms and the alarm did go off. tried this several times using as little movement as possible and each time it went off, tried with sensors turned off and hey presto no alarm activation

Hope this SCIENTIFIC research clarifies it for you :P
