Radio Hacks And Tuner Conversion

Recommended Posts

I have an Japanese Toyota Harrier 2.0L 96' and it has this NTSC tuner which doesn't work in Pal B Malaysia. Any idea where to get started and how to install the thing and make it work? I am a real newbie, so help is truely appreciated.

Here's another quirk i found too, the radio's FM reception is stuck between 80hz and 90hz. Is there a way to jack the level up to 150hhz? Most of the radio stations in town is under 90hz and above. Thank you.

Yeah, you will need a band expander, not to sure whether these will be the same as UK spec one's so you will probably be best asking at your local car audio shop, they shouldnt cost more than £15, failing that try flee-bay.

The asking the local audio shop is an issue as the RX and the Harriers in Malaysia is all grey imports, so i can't ask Toyota Malaysia or even the neighbourhood shop.

Is the band expander for the radio, TV or both?

What would i need for the TV reception anyway? The telly's kinda usless at best. To use what to convert PAL B signals to NTSC so that the telly would work?

Did you ever have any luck finding out how to solve this problem mate? I have just bought an Altezza here in Malaysia, also Japanese grey import... would like to do the same.. I guess you could buy a new radio/cd set.... that would fix the problem right?
