I've noticed oil being left on my drive over the last couple of weeks. At first I dismissed it (not from my lexus). I asked a mechanic friend to take a look. He said it seems to be coming from where the gearbox mates to the engine and that it could be an internal seal (big expensive job he said). The car is still under warranty from where I bought it from they said to clean the oil away and check it again in a week or so.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this type of oil leak.

Plus eversince I bought the car I've had a crackling noise like liquid dripping onto the exhaust (after turning it off). The sound isn't there when the car is running. Is this normal.

Also should I have had a booklet with instructions on how to use the satnav in with the pack.

apart from these I'm more than happy with the car.

Any advice/help or feedback etc would be grateful

It's the main rear engine seal.

There are lots of reports on the US forums.

The seal has been redesigned so shouldn't happen again if you have it replaced.

Thanks ColinBarber

looking at the pic that could also explain the crackling noise. (oil dripping onto exhaust). not that there's any sign of oil on the exhaust (I've just taken a look)

will get it checked out under the warranty.
