Snow Mode

Recommended Posts

It's all these flash low profile tyres the car industry seems so keen on these days. Only solution (albeit expensive) is winter tyres and some weight in the boot. Then the snow button has a chance to be effective, but then so does a delicate right foot!

Yes it does make a difference in slow moving traffic.

Its rubbish. Where i live the Snow mode does nothing, apart from make throttle less responsive. It still spins like hell, back end still tries to go opposite way to the front end!

That's pretty normal for about 90% of all rear-wheel drive cars anyway...

;)

Yeah, I was just disapointed. Bought the car, got some snow and ice and acts like this. Know its a problem with most rear wheel drive cars, but the car is still quite skidy on the rear end.

For example, i pulled out in front of a car on a roundabout, turned right and back end kicks out (even with TRC on!)

Anyways, im still impressed with the car, only thing is the power of it

I don't really see much point in that "snow" button either. I've tried using it on icy roads and it doesn't seem to make alot of difference. I have noticed how it reduces the throttle response, but don't find it much use.

It still doesn't help my car out of the slopy drive in the snow !!

That's because all it does is reduce throttle response - it doesn't magically produce traction.

If you want to drive in ice and snow the only answer is winter tyres I'm afraid.

I find the combination of T/C and auto-box (can't stall) with winters is not bad at all.

You'd think it would / should magically produce some kinda greater traction with it being called "snow" mode.

True though, winter tyres are the best way to go. My mate lived on a greater slope than I did when he had his Ford Escort Van. He put spiked tyres on it, and climbed the slope to his house no problem.

because you need winter tyres! normal tyres go hard and loose grip in temps below 7C, winter tyres do not.

would you drive normally in loads of rain with slicks on??? no, so then why complain when the SUMMER TYRES spin on ice or snow.

oh sorry forget what i said above, i have just read the bit in the manual that says when you press the snow button, your tyres swap instantly to winter tyres and studs pop out like james bond ( plus chains if required)

  • 4 years later...

Have never used it on my Lexus but did use it in my Vauxhall but the handbook for the Vauxhall said not to use it for long periods of time because it makes the auto pull away in a higher gear, this can put a high strees on the torque converter which can cause it t get very hot and to much heat is not good for an auto box.

Regards

Russell.
