Guys,

many many of you have PM'd me to ask what happened to the "Looky Looky" thread  . I am truly grateful for all of your concerns.

Well, after much deliberation my wife convinced me to stop whinging, have the thread removed and get the car sorted out. I asked Scarface and Steve (thanks guys) to remove it. Part of this was down to the fact that I could not leave the car in the garage any longer...it needed to be used as a wedding car at the weekend and I'm sick of hire cars, but largely down to the fact that I was having a serious falling out with my dealer which I didn't want. I didn't want this to get "personal" and become a trouble maker - it was never the intention (I just fought for my rights!!).

New cars drop like a stone in value as soon as they are registered, as you all know. In most cases, unless the manufacturer agrees to buy the back the car you won't get anywhere with your dealer. Simple fact. Dealers (regardless of make) will not take any financial hit unless they are amazingly good or really really value your custom (you all know how hard it is to get a good deal on a car...you pay through the nose for Supagard, finance (doc fees) and you have to fight for even poxiest items).

2nd hand cars are much easier to reject.

Funnily - the car's rattles have all gone. I think it's the temperature, so I'm still going to have them all looked at next week...though the wind noise has worsened on the passengers door B pillar and the dash speaker grill still looks distorted around the edges.

I am disappointed overall with the due process (AND NOT WITH THE CAR), but I reckon I'll have to live that, period!

As far as the car is concerned it's truly wonderful, though the road noise is tiring at times now...but that's no worse than anything I've driven with tyres like that...

I have my volume control set to 40, what's road noise ? :D

I now have a very creaky drivers seat at 3000 miles and rattles from around the dash/centre console and under the steering wheel.

I will be contacting my dealer shortly to get this all fixed as it is starting to annoy me.

I still love the car and mechanically it is superb.

I noticed another nanny thing easter weekend.

Low Washer Fluid Warning. Why does it need to tell you constantly!!!

Has anyone managed to disable any of the nanny features on the UK model?

wunderful innit!! That sound quality is awesome!

The road noise seems to be either nothing or everything...you can tell the colour and coarseness of the tar even with your eyes closed... :tomato:

Not when you're driving of course :duh:

Mind you, sometimes you look at the speedo and realise you really shouldn't be going that fast...it's deathly silent and I'm having to use the cruise as much as possible...other times the tyre roar is so loud you can barely hear the passengers talking to you...

Hi

Well done to have made a decision.! I had the same regrets Now that woodford have sorted my car it is 98% rattle free. Its just that I expected so much more from lexus that made is a disappointing experience to buy..but that is old ground. James tells me at Woodford that none of the brand new ones have come back with rattles..so we have been the 'guinea pigs'. Find the best service centre and forget the salesstaff. I am sure that they will sort the car.. Look on the bright side:

It has the best stereo around!

Great seats and comfort

Great brakes and safety.

Fuel economy not what advertised but more than acceptable

Great Keyless entry system.

Best MM sat nav I have seen!

If it makes you feel any better I test drove a brand new BMW 320 d on Sunday (200miles on the ODO) and guess what.... the dash rattled!!!!! and the run falt tyres give just as firm ride as the IS

I agree turn the volume up and enjoy it... you loose so much in the fist few months to a year its worth hanging on for a while..it may grow on you you never know.

Best of lUck

Alan

Cheers Alan,

you're not thinking of defecting are you (is it for the "company" car - if so go and drive a reasonably spec'd A4 with a lighter interior colour - it's lovely)?:lol:

I've never had a problem with the car...it's great. I can live with all of the nanny's, the only thing that gets me is the Satnav Volume...it's too low...especially if you want to be "cocooned" by classical music on a late drive home...

Road noise - I found the same with the Beemer run flats...on 16" the road noise is not too much of an issue, but you try the 17"/18" wheels on a 3 series, and the road noise becomes an issue (albeit slightly less then Lex). The ride is hard no matter what the surface with runflats and no better than the Lex, though the handling is a bit sharper.

I've been thinking about mentioning this to the dealer, but it looks as though it happens regardless of the rubber on the SE/SE-L wheels, so I'll wait until they need changing and then do some serious research...

@ Whoever - I too believed mine would be OK. Nicnac managed to get an assurance from LGB that his would be fine, so I guess "Us pathfinders" have helped to some degree...

  • 2 weeks later...

OK guys and gals...

"Alexis" went in to be looked at on Monday/Tuesday. Here's what was done:

Front dash speaker - removed and replaced...now sits flat and rattles not there at all. Sits solidly in place.

Glovebox - remedial work behind the glovebox and passenger footwell to cure rattles, though I'm not sure what was actually done, but it definately has cured it.

Replaced both front door seals - wind noise is now 10% of what it was...and is perfectly fine/acceptable

Satnav unit - mine used to occasionally show me driving over buildings (and did it on the rattle test drive), going slightly in the wrong direction sometimes etc - complete new system fitted (i.e. whole screen/unit) - works perfectly now, and once satellites have been found (i.e. within 30 seconds of start up) it's spot on and arrow scrolls quicker.

So I'm extremely pleased. I also have to say (and this is a turnaround  ) that the professionalism shown by Lexus Leicesters technicians was first rate. Quick diagnosis, test drive with me, isolated the problems and a fix recommended immediately. 10/10 finally!! What I expected...

One things for sure, on speaking to the dealer principal, I would strongly suggest that each of you that has a rattle or other problem take it in to your local specialist straight away. Don't wait for the first service.

Once a piece of warranty work is done, the "Product info" is updated on the main computer system, and Lexus see it. The quicker this happens the better. They monitor trends and dealer feedback and only then can they fix it on the production line.

I was annoyed and felt let down 'cos I felt I should not have been sold a car with a known problem, but I have to say Lexus Leicester have done what I expected and I am finally satisfied with the aftersales. At the end of the day "...it's only a car..." and the actual physical problems were very very small...

Not just a thanks to all concerned at Leicester (Service manager/technicians/DP), but to you guys on the forum too for your help and assistance...THANK YOU!

Jamboo, glad you got the work sorted ... mine is booked in two weeks for rattles. Did/are you having problems with the driver's seat cooler. My driver's seat cooler is definitely not in the same as the passenger one and I'm getting Lexus to look at this as well.
