Hi everyone,

After planning to buy a second hand 3-series/A4, I test drove a 2001 IS200 and liked it so much I bought it last week. I am very happy with the car ...except for the CD Player. I get Error 3 with all of my cds (which are original and un-scratched).

I have read all the topics I can find on this subject and the solution seems to be to get a cleaner. I've used a philips lens cleaning cd several times and there is no difference. Does anyone have any suggestions for a better lens cleaner? Is it possible to take the player apart and change the lens?

I don't feel like forking out for a new system having already gone over my budget to buy the car. It's over 5 years old so the warranty is out and the dealership I bought it from isn't very helpful.

I appreciate any replies.

Hi Mate, ERR3 normally means that something inside is broken.... In one of the guides round here i think thier is something about taking it apart and seeing if you can fix it, but i wouldnt be able to point you too it.

Someone how knows this place better should be along shortly.

oh and Welcome to LOC enjoy your stay

Hi and welcome to LOC :D

ERR3 is a mechanical handling problem within the head unit and nothing to do with the lens I'm afraid. Do a search on ERR3 and loads comes up including THIS. I never load more than 3 CD's at a time and so far that seems be OK, try disconnecting the Battery for a couple of minutes that sometimes works.

This is a known fault and happened to my Lexus IS200 SE. Lexus GB told me that they will change it under warranty if less than 5 years old. So you may be just in luck.
