whats the best way to learn how to ride a bike ?

Have a little go on a scooter, you can ride anything up to i think a 125 on a car driving licence, then go to local bike school they'll chuck you on a gear'd 125 or 500 depending on how confident etc. Then a couple of days training i did 1 and a bit then your test and hey presto you can go and get a new super bike that does 0-60 in 3 seconds and limited to 186mph. in my mind a bit silly but thats the law

If you are going to and havent driving before start off smaller like a 600 there good but still mind bendingly quick, i used to have a yamaha fazer 600 (im tall and cant fit on those little superbikes anymore). some thing like that will do anyone fine still got 110-120hp and kill any car on the road.

Ellz, your slightly wrong mate !

In the UK .... if you have passed your test before February 2001, you may ride a scooter upto 50cc without L plates on your car driving licence.

However, anything over 50cc and upto 125cc (33bhp) you have to take and pass a CBT then you are able to ride for upto 2 years with L plates.

Alternativeley you do the DAS and pass your test on a 500cc bike, so you can ride anything ! :)

It's all changing again in 2008..... so do it now ! :)
