Cam Belt - Tensioner Advice

Recommended Posts

I have just called a local independent Toyota specialist for a price to change my cambelt (£195 +vat). I asked them if they change the tensioners/idlers and they said there is no need to as the mileage is not hight enough to warrant it (87K).

Anyone got any comments on this?

Thanks

Should at least check them at the time ....

They did on mine last week and changed the tensioner as a result.

And that's at 48k miles.

I'm sure Monster Mat has pointed out on another thread about this recently that conditions of these items were the main reason for the belt change interval being dropped from 100k milles to 60k miles.

Better safe than sorry ...

Hi There...I literally had my timing belt, tensioner /idler and the three other belts as well as the Water pump cahnged an fortnight ago.

My understanding is that although the belt may be of high quality - it is in fact the tensioner / idler that normally fails hence the belt failing.

To be honest - the whole lot cost me around £450 Parts and labour - all geniune parts inc Toyota coolant...but it is so worth while - if your looking to keep your car...
