Fitting A Minidisc Changer

Recommended Posts

Apologies in advance if this is a real dumb question... (did try searching, but no joy)

Is it possible to fit a minidisc changer to a car that equipped with sat nav? I'm guessing that the reason Lexus don't offer the MD changer as an option when sat nav is fitted, is that the sat nav unit occupies the space in the boot where the MD changer would normally go?

If that's the case, is the wiring for a MD changer already laid to the boot, and wouldn't it be possible to fit the MD changer elsewhere in the boot - e.g. strapped to the side?

Also what make is the Lexus MD changer? A re-badged Sony perhaps? I'm wondering because the Lexus dealer price for it is mega-bucks! :o

i enquired about this when i got my car

i think the reason why you can't add it is because the satnav occupies the input on the stereo that the MD changer would use (but i'm not absolutely sure about it)

yeah you're right its far too expensive, you could always get the sony 6 disc MDLP changer and use an FM modulator

i gave up on the MD idea when i found out about the Dension mp3 player! now jus waiting for bucks to go out and buy one!

The plug socket in the back of the radio, where the MD changer would go, is occupied by the sat nav plug.

There isn't a MD lead already ran through the car, as the lead is supplied with the MD changer.

It would be possible to plug in the MD changer, and switch the nav inputs using two relays, but you wouldn't be able to have the nav voice on, when listening to minidiscs.

does that mean that you could add even the mp3 player to it

ok you wouldn't be able to use satnav and mp3 at same time but you could connect without using the fm modulator
