Is The Mpg Gauge Accurate And/or Useful?

Recommended Posts

Appears to be more of an aesthetic dial to me, to fit in with the "Sports Chronographic Watch" theme and the intervals on it are too big to get a precise reading to the nearest MPG?

What's the best way to drive to get a reading?

Is the IS200/300 the only car ever to have such a speedo?

No I think that all cars have speedos these days :shifty: .... In the US they call them trunks :winky:

If you back off the throttle a bit whilst driving, then the MPGometer will show a higher MPG.. They are not accurate but useful to help train you to use a lighter throttle position than you normally would. Audis of the eighties used to have these gauges, they measured the vacuum in the manifold.. the lower the vacuum the further open the throttle was and the more fuel you were burning

japthree...you are right, its just cosmetics.

I dont think there is a way to accurately read those things.

I get a reading by filling the tank up full. Drive 200 miles. Fill the tank up full and see how many gallons you get. Divide that by the miles and you get your MPG.

I get about 21 mpg. Thats my normal driving. If I drive like "driving miss daisy" style, then I can pull off 23mpg.
