hey,

i just wanted to ask if anyone knows what the difference is between 225/40/18 tyres and 235/40/18.

i bought some alloys which are 18" and 7.5 in width for my is200, and also got some 235/40/18. but i have come to know that these may not be the right ones?

can anyone elaborate??

Yep they're 10mm wider and the profile will be a few mm higher :)

I don't think the width will be a problem, but the higher profile will make the wheel bigger overall which will make the speedo under-read........

Differance to profile will be minimal though. 4mm at most (like a new tyre compared with an old!)

Yup about 8mm on the diameter so about 1% effect on the speedo reading.

if the width is 235 I think they are supposed to go on rims that are 8.5-9 wide, don't quote me cos i've not looked it up recently

7.5j is perfect for 235mm .... my IS250 8j rims have factory fitted 245's on the rear and 225's on the front

so 225 on the front is better if you have lowered the ride ;)

but remember offset ( ET ) is the MOST important no. of all, get that wrong and your in trouble from the off
