Nasty Smell From Heater Vents Occasionally

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have just bought this car which is lovely BUT has one or two issues that I'm slowly working through.

One issue is this nasty smell from heater vents, it's sweet but nasty, like a stale dish-cloth and comes and goes. I thought it was related to switching OFF the air-con but now, with a little more experience, it just seems to come and go at will.

I've had the both the regular cabin filters out and shaken out the insects etc. and sniffed them but they seem ok.

Anyone got any experience/ideas about this?

THanks

Mike

Been up a few times this, its bacteria growing in the air con system, nice and damp and warm.... You can get an aerosol to clean it out, Halfords among others sell it, costs about £10, did it to mine a while back and all is smelling of roses now, You put the air con to recirculate and let off the can in the car, it empties to whole can and draws it around and through the air con, you stay outside the car and leave it running for 10-15 mins and all is sorted. Don't forget to put the rear air con on as well

It may also be a good idea to change the filters while you're at it

Thanks Mark, now when I used the search button for "kills dogs" why didn't it bring up this post.... how good is this search thingy???... I've had problems before with it...

Pete

Had the same problem - in the end used the advanced search - used "cleaner" as the keyword and "steve2006" as the user......first time i searched just for "air" - which returned no results at all - which is very strange - sure there must be a post someone on here with the word "air" in it - well there is now :winky:
