Front Speakers And Tweeters

I also had problems when fitting new front door speakers as they are SOOOOOOO deep that when the window came down they hit the magnets on the rear of the speakers. I had to destroy the original front speakers to create a template to mount the new ones!!!

old speakers cut to pieces!

new ones are too deep!

Used some ultra sticky membrane seal, this stuff is used to seal under floor damp proof membranes and sticks like :tsktsk:

fitted into the door brings the new speaker out to the correct position.

and with it all finally in place!

I also have the S model, its the best model if your going to upgrade the sound system as you don't have the additional amp to fight with and the new headunit will just plug straight in with the additional lead. :)

Nice one mate, was thinking i'd have to get all DIY and make some mounts out of MDF, will have a go at that at weekend :)

How did you go about fastening the speaker mount back to the door? can see some screw heads, but little un-sure about that one.

The speaker mount is fixed back to the door with bolts and nylock nuts, they originally have rivets that need to be drilled out. I made the holes bigger to take larger sized bolts, I used the same sticker seal stuff to fix it to the door as well, it stops it from rattling.

The pictures don't show it but i have also applied several layers of dynomat behind the speakers to help with the sound. Makes sense to do it while you have everytrhing off, just an idea!

im trying to get wiring throught for the sub and where do i get the wire to the boot

thanks

I ran my all the wires down the sides of the car, if you open the front and rear doors you will see a plastic piece that runs along the floor at the edge, if you lift this up you will see that there are already several wires being run along this area. If you remove the rear seats then the wires can be fed all the way along and the piece just clip back in! :) Hope this helps, or at least makes some sense! :)

Get dynamat extreme, the alu foil backed one as the standard version doesnt like cold or heat too much!!

it can goe brittle and come away in the cold...

dynamat extereme

you may find it cheaper on eBay and may get away with two wedge packs which may work out cheaper but less dynamat..

if you are going to dymant though i would seriously recomend making a new speaker mounting ring form mdf to get the best out of em..

installation is just as important of not more than the speakers used!!

The amp should have a remote turn on lead, that wire when fed with a supply switches the amp on

or allows the circuit to complete. The main power wire is physically connected to the amp, but the

power is switched internally depending if the remote wire has +volts or not.

(the circuit diagram in the instructions should mark the 'turn on' wire rem or ign)

Small update, Mids are in, and working well, will post up some pics sometime this week if I get chance. Going to have to try mod the tweeters, so they fit in the pods. again depends on how busy work is.

Anyone know of any threads about getting to the head unit? Going to get a double DIN head unit in next week. :)
