Hello all, any chance anyone can help me out? I got a 99 IS200, and want to upgrade the front speakers and tweeters.

I know the speakers are 6.5 inch in doors, but are the tweeters changeable??

Also how do i get to the speakers without breaking anything LOL!

tweeters are changeable, just pop off the cover!!

to remove door card, there are two screws, one behind the door handle and one in the arm rest recess..

pop the door clips at the bottom and the unclip the wiring harnesses, really straightforward..

i think theres a walk through somewhere?

Slightly bigger, you have to make a template for them to sit on,

Just get some ply about 1/2cm to 1cm thick i think, cut round the original, then the new one and tadah!

you need it to be thickish to raise above the boot supports.

are you changing to aftermarket speakers

Yes, Will i be able to swap the tweeters over??

are you changing the amp or leaving the amp standard. what speakers you going for?

Got some Vibe speakers, they sounded best in shop, and looked decent quality (am a bit of a audiophile, so can tell what i'm looking for).

Leaving the amp alone for the moment, getting a nice double din touch screen in a few weeks, so will see if fronts need amping when thats installed.

Just out of interest, where is the amp? Is it built into head unit??

Just out of interest, what size are the rear speakers?? Are they 6x9's?

6x9's, but the frame of the speaker also is the spacer...

Click HERE to see how to make some spacers & removing the 6x9's in the first place.

Quality mate, shall be needing that. :) Got a 2-channel 300W JBL amp, going to wire up for the back speakers with some high quality and powerful 6x9's. Recon with the right ones I can get away without a Sub.

You need a different Head Unit unless you like a lot of wire cutting etc unless yours is the basic 'S' model.

The 'SE' & 'Sport' have an external amp behind the glovebox on the bulkhead, and the rear 6x9's are

Bi-Wired. Not only that they are driven at different impedences as well. No straight swap I'm afraid fella.

You could just try to join then up to the existing wiring, but you will not get the best possible sound out of them.

Result for you mate, you can change the front & rear speakers without any issues.

If you want to use an Amplifier, things are easier, but you will have to use a Hi-Level

to RCA Phono Converter. Not the best thing for sound quality, but it will allow you to

keep the standard Head Unit, and replace the OE Speakers or Amp them.

Wicked :)

Going to update the head unit by end of Jan, then when I find a half leather interior, I'll sort the 6x9's (I already have a two channel amp for them, which I'll try mount under the parcel shelf in the boot.

And will see how the new fronts speakers sound and whether they need amping when I connect new head unit. :)

Thanks for your help mate

Sorted got in, thats easy enough, wish someone could have mentioned that i need to drill out the old speakers, then mount the new ones. Made it out to be like they just popped in and out. Never mind, job for another day. :(
