Aftermarket Headunit Fitment

Hi all,

I wasn't sure if the wiring would be the same on an IS200 as an Altezza so do you know if I need an amp by pass lead to change the stock headunit on my 99 Altezza?

OK, so I have confirmed I don't need the bypass lead as after popping out my glovebox I don't have the amp.

Next question is what cable do I need to go from the lexus/toyota audio to my new headunit? I'm not changing the speakers.

Am I right in thinking that the same connector/lead is used for the MR2 ? I seem to remember reading that here, though I could be wrong.

Are you having radio reception problems with the new headunit. Does the Altezza have a ariel amplifier? I know some ariel amps get their power from the headunit through the ariel lead. Since i have changed my headunit the radio reception is awful so im guessing it is not powering the amp.

yes there is on the model with the amp, not sure about the altezza, there should be a single black wire on its own with a connector. Thats the power for the antenna.

So if I cut off the connector and put 12V to the black wire it should power the antenna amplifier.

no theres not a connectors that goes into the stereo, it joins somewhere further back i think, theres a connector joining two ends together behind the stereo.

Just tap into this.

Ok ive found it. Pin 8 on the main headunit connector is what you want, it is a black wire. There is another black wire with a single 1 pin connector on it but its not that one. Tapped into it and wired it to the headunits ignition live and the radio reception suddenly got a lot better.

yeah thats right sorry, just got home an looked at the diagrams.

That one should be the same wire as the single one with the single connector.
