Ls 400 Acc Control Unit And Lcd Display Removal - 1992

Recommended Posts

Not having found anything comprehensive, or well illustrated, I have published a how to guide as LCD failure and replacement is all but compulsory on early LS400's! My unit is being forwarded for repair, and will update you as to the results, which, without doubt will be of a very high standard, indeed.

Hope this helps.

Very clear. You could get a job as a technical author !

May I add something ? Using a clean, flat-blade scraper (c.50mm wide) to prise out the trim and air vents might be less likely to cause damage than a screwdriver.

But it is one of those jobs which seems dead easy the second time you do it.

AND cover it with a nice soft cloth, Mr Jelly-Bean! :whistling:

I use my fingers to remove the centre vent by gripping the lower edge and pulling out and slightly upwards as described on the lexls.com tutorial site.

I used Oxyacetalene to remove my vents and burnt my fingers! :whistling:

Seriously ( am I ever!) I modified a 2" wallpaper scraper by wrapping several layers of electrical tape around the blade approx 5mm from the edge of the blade, this allows easy insertion ( oh err) and levering without causing damage.

Here's one I made earlier ( not really but I will post a picture if you are really desperate and sad!)

yep... i followed the lexis.com tutorial too, and it said on there to pull the vent.... and thats what i did.... came out really easily, even managed to disconect the hazard warning light connector. while doing it... which saved me a stage ;)

Thanks for that, and all your comments. I try not to be ham-fisted - and this is the first bit of work I've done on a Lexus, and I must say I really am delighted with the build quality, already!

Chris, I'll be looking out for your LS400 in Shire. Did I not see you venture up to Chalrton Mead a while back - or was that yet another one in the area?

More to come in the future, no doubt!

Hey there, im an Australian owner of LS400 90 model.

Im new to these forums and well signed up with the Aussie and U.S forums aswell.

But in regards to the lcd problem Australia has no info on fixing it and U.S say they can do a replacement lcd swap but will only fix a left hand drive car.

So was wondering because i used this guide already to remove it, thanks btw great write up. Where can i send mine to be replaced/fixed? or where are you guys sending it too? :(

Any advice is helpful, sorry for sorta highjacking your thread

I am using a friend in Wales, who is experienced in fixing lcds from other makes, principally Saabs, which I am also into, big time!

can you ask if him if he is willing to fix mine if i send it 2 him? and how much 2?

Will do. He is at present sourcing the parts, and manufacture, and I will get back to you with progress.
