Righto, not long after I got the Lexus back from having a 'new' starter fitted I got severe whiffs of petrol and noticed that her fuel consumption was worse than ever! Anyway, I took her back to the mechanic and he rtels me he's having problems with on of the fuel injectors, even with the engine turned off there's still pressure and it's pumping out petrol... he had to disconnect the Battery and leave it for a day!

Anyone any ideas why it would do this? Why would, with no key in the ignition, there still be pressure for it to pump out fuel?

The fuel system is a pressurised system, if not you'd have to wait several seconds for fuel to be pumped 15 feet to the front of the car to start it, instead of a second to start it.

Can the injectors electrical connectors only connect one way, or is there a wiring fault, chaffed etc.

Its either a coincidence, or something your mechanic has disturbed, so if everything looks ok maybe its worth swapping the injector with another one to eliminate the injector, or the wiring.

Hope you get it sorted.

I dont understand why the mechanic had to remove the injectors in the 1st place as the inlet manifold can be removed with them all still attached.

The only fuel pipes that need disconnecting are the supply and return pipes.

If the injector is now leaking it is possible it had been dropped.

What was the 'poor' mpg figure then just interested. My worse MPG the car covered 360 miles on a tank of fuel and that was by driving like a completed ar*e, getting way to carried away with double kickdowns, mass overtakes and high speeds all in sport mode, and with all that (inexcusable) driving I still got 23.5 mpg. That seems brilliant to me.

Hmm.... I rarely get more than 360 miles to a tankful (of super as well). But then, I do drive like that all the time I suppose... :D :whistling:

LOL !

I did try super, cant say it made a difference, driving spiritedly instead of all out, I get approx 400 - 420 miles on a tank of fuel.

I do have a straight run to work though, 5 minutes to get out of Yarmouth, 8 miles down a straight A road with one kink in it, then 9 miles down a dual carriageway. Rarely get a traffic jam, so the car doesnt spend much time in the lower gears.
