Buying A New Is From Drivethedeal.com

Recommended Posts

Has anyone bought their IS from one of the online dealers, dealdrivers.co.uk, drivethedeal.com or their ilk?

No, but I used the drivethedeal price as a negotiating tool with my local dealer.

I still paid a little more than the best price, but the dealer had spent time with me and arranged test drives etc. so I was happy.

Although the most recent of these comments is now over a year old, they might be of interest: http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/discussion/broadspeed-com/ However, the tactic used by Dazed promises to give the best result and is worth trying, even if you find you need to travel around a few Lexus dealers. According to http://www.am-online.com/NewCarSalesFigures/ Lexus new car sales are still down significantly and so the dealers should be willing to yield a little on price. Also if you have a part exchange you'll probably find the car brokers aren't really interested and, at best, will only offer a derisory trade-in price. I found http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/prices/# gave a reasonable indication of trade-in prices.

Hi I bought my IS 250 SE-L AUTO MM from dealdrivers.co.uk. I got it £2500 cheaper than my local dealer.

All you do is tell them your model and specs and they look around and get back to you with a price and when you agree to the price they will ask the Lexus dealer to call you and you pay the Lexus dealer the deposit and deal with them from there on.

That's interesting D BUK, I've spoken to dealdrivers who were a bit vague, can't blame them for that, they have to be. I was told that the cars could be supplied from a dealership on the M5 corridor or was it the M4 corridor, you may know being from London, either way it's too far for me, or the NE of England which would be better.

Thanks for feedback.

Most dealers will actually match or get pretty close to the prices on those sites (they are sourced from UK dealers at the end of the day) so just print the page out, take it to your dealer and hold your ground :)

As I am in London I was told my car would be from a dealer on the M4 corridor (Lexus reading) it was slightly out of the way but a train ticket cost me £25 which is nothing compared to what I saved using them. My brother in law bought a Rx400h with metalic paint, 2 years free servicing and boot liner from them for £31700 brand new and picked it up from Lexus Park Lane brand new on a 09 plate.

When I got the quote from dealdrivers I took it to my local Lexus dealer (Lexus Edgware Road) and they would not except it as it was an internet quote and they dont match it, however that was 2 years ago things may of changed. Good Luck

Thanks, that's very informative.

A feeble response from Edgeware Road. It's their perogative to refuse to cut their margins to supply you but I would have thought they would have tried to put up an argument to dissuade you from going down that route. It was easy enough to find out whether the quote was genuine or not, all they had to do was go onto the website and punch in what you punched in. They know what cars are being sold for online, it's a big thorn in their side. These online dealers have made it much easier for Joe Public to have some idea what he should be paying for his new car.

Who did you deal with? Sales team seems to be quite varied, bought my car there a while back and tended to always deal with AJ who's great, but went there a few years ago pretty much ready to buy a GS430 and ended up going to Mercedes as AJ was off due to having a new baby and the other sales staff were not even slightly interested in doing a deal.

I'm sure things must have changed now but I'm still a lot happier now I'm using Lexus Woodford, and although I haven't directly used them yet their sales staff seem to be quite accommodating when I had a very mild discussion about possibly upgrading a few months ago.

All people like DtD do is put you in touch with a Dealer willing to sell at the stated price. You buy, like you would, from UK franchise Dealer with the best price negotiation having been done already. if your local Dealer wont match it/come close - then buy form the one they out you in touch with. Absolutely simple and efficient.

I didn't buy from DtD but used it for negotiation... at the time the dealer met their price (this was in March '08 though...)
