Timing Belt

Recommended Posts

Afternoon everyone,

Does anyone live near Leeds who has experience changing a timing belt??

Would like to save some pennies by doing the job myself, but I don't feel super confident in such a big job.

I know there is a good write up on here of what to do, but i'm also a little worried about the special tool needed.

I don't completly lack experience, and have changed brakes and discs myself, and loads of other stuff.

But if anyone is local and would be willing to lend a hand would be great!

I did mine and it wasn't hard at all. Bottom pulley bolt was hellishly tight though but did't need the puller to get the pulley off. As for locking up the bottom I just put the car in gear and had to get a mate to hold the belt on the cam pulley too while i swung off the pulley bolt with a big big bar. That was almost 5,000 miles ago

Trouble is I simply can't be without my car, need it to get to and from work.

So once I start I am commited. Don't have access to a full workshop either, so I don't have as much flexability to bodge something together if I can't get the bolt un-done.

Does anyone know if clear cam-belt covers and Cnc's cam gears are available for the 1g-fe??

as long as you have the tools and some common sense the book time for the timing belt is two hours so taking it easy and being carefull you could have it done in approx 3 to 3 1/2 hours.
