I was watching TOP Gear today, they were discussing crash test rating stars.

Even though I googled it, but could not come to a definite answer, for UK safety standard for Lexus.

I am wondering, what will be crash test index for MK?, crash test have 5 stars, how many stars for MK? & for which model.

I have got MK1, I use to drive my family on weekend for outings, I am bit scared, what they have shown on TV, e.g. Avensis had all 5 stars, if hit a wall on 40mile, cabin structure will remain intact, doors can be open & closed after crash.

I commute on Fiat 500 to my office, because big giant MK1 is very hard to drive in city & expensive tooo, as every where I can not drive more than 30, MK1 is very expensive if one is driven on 30 for longer duration in city.

What about MK1 & later models MK2 & 3. I love my MK1 & don't wana change it because of shape & looks, bit worried about cabin strength, when I am with my family I never cross legal limit, I am never engaged in an accident in my life, so I have no experience even though I have seen videos.

Anyone who knows about official link, where I can see my MK1 cabin strength & ratings. Fiat 500 too if possible.

NCAP ratings have only been available for about 10 years

the latest GS and IS models both scored a 5 for adult passenger safety

not all models are available and it is not compulsory for manufacturers to submit their cars for testing hence why loads of even recent models are not available

fiat 500:

5 stars for adult passengers

3 stars for child passengers

I don't think you should worry about the structure of your GS too much. The Lexus build quality is of a high standard. This is a part of what makes their cars reliable. Limo stretchers do not like converting the LS into limousines becuase their panels are so thick!! So rest your mind, my friend. You family are safe.

Mk2 was never tested by NCAP. It was tested, however, in the US (IIHS). It was among the best in its class, although not the best.

Mk3 got the highest score in NCAP at the time of the test, and is still among the best.

As for Mk1, it looks rather average according to its 1995 test by NHTSA.
