Spacers wont sort out the problem because an offset of +35 will come out towards the arch 3mm FURTHER than an offset of +38 assuming the width of the wheels is equal. Whats the standard width and offset and the new wheel width and offset?

Unless the wheel is already close to the lip of the arch (which I beleive it won't be) then I can't see you having a problem. Nearly all aftermarket alloy wheels that look good have a much lower offset than stock.
