Cooking Those Lights

following recent posts on the dismantling of lights

the things i do for you all :hehe:

in a scientific experiment, i have discovered that the rear lights from an is200 will not dismantle, even if you use any amount of heat

the lens cover is solvent welded to the lens body

basically the two bits of plastic are chemically welded together

there is no glue to melt

unlike the front lights which do seem to be assembled differently

the only way i can think of dimantling the rears is to cut them apart, and i will leave that to someone else to do <_<

my next experiment will be on the front fogs, any one else got any starters

cough"zee"cough

i will post some pics in a bit

but i do know another way

Would you like to elaborate on this..............why not

1. i dont think cutting would be feasable the materials are very brittle and theres the problem where the lights are recessed next to boot lid

2. reverse the chemical reaction : use something like nail varnish remover, it will eat away at the solvent weld, but could also eat away at more than you want

I just spoke to my mate and he said he's put a lense in a bucket of HOT water!!!

after all your only softening up the glue sufficent enough to pull them apart.

Think about it, when i'm de-badging a car thats the first thing i do.....pour

boiling hot water over the badges then with a twist its off.

so cant see it being any different.

I'm sure Mat's done the rears, its in the gallery or was

Ian...... yep thats the plan :winky:

Mat didn't change the colour of his rear lamps.

He bought a set of white ones - the last set if memory serves.

He did however change the colour of headlamps + front fogs.

There, i think that clarifies it ....

Now enter stage left ... Mat ...

very cross coz people not reading his posts properly :shutit:

 :D
