Is250/220 Compared To Is200 / 3Rd Gen News?

Recommended Posts

I've yet to drive an IS250 and am curious how does it compare to the IS200. This has been probably discussed many times before when the IS250 came out but a refresher would be appreciated, personal opinions.

Also any news on the 3rd gen IS yet - after 2012 - probably?

IS250 auto superb - smoother, quieter, more powerful and economical. IS250 manual - not the greatest gearbox in the world and VED is higher because of greater CO emissions than the auto. They have more toys - most of which are useful, and have better sound systems, especially MM versions.

The 250 feels like a bigger car than the 200 and is bulkier to park. It doesn't seem quite as compact and taught. Handling is very good but different. In my opinion only, the 250 has more up-to-date styling although is not as outstandingly good-looking as the 200 was - but is now starting to become just a little dated.

3rd generation - who knows, but suspect likely to be based around a hybrid.

I swapped over yesterday.....

The 250 definately feels bigger in the front, but similar to the 200 in the back. Much smoother ride and road noise is less. However I felt a tad more planted in the 200, the steering wheel felt much more connected to what I was doing. I wouldn't say it's heaps more powerful, but it's certainly noticeable (towards the end with the 200 I was forcing her a little too much out of junctions etc, but I don't need to do that so much in the 250).

Toys are fantastic (SE-L MM has everything you could ever want) but they were fantastic on the 200 when I first got my hands on one :)

Overall I'm glad I made the change, but the 200 is probably a bit more "timeless" and I think people will come to remember it more in years to come.

Yes I could agree with you on that but the SEL 250 mm Auto is a fantastic car I think you would have to agree with me there ? msn-wink.gif

Absolutely, best car I've ever had (but don't we always say that about the latest addition). I had to hold back a tear when I left the 200 at the Lexus dealership though :crybaby:

I was stuck in traffic today for what under normal circumstances would have seemed like an eternity. In the 250, I couldn't give a monkeys, in fact I relished the extra time I could sit in my baby

The SE-L 250 MM Auto would be the one I'd choose but I detest the wood trim. There's some 20 year anniversary complimentary upgrade for the SE-L to F-Sport trim at the mo?

Isnt the SE-L higher in the range than the F-Sport?
