Cleaning Stainless Exhaust Tip

Hi all,

This might sound like a daft question but during the recent poor weather the car hasn't been used much and i've noticed the stainless steel end of the exhaust looks a little rusty / dis-coloured. My previous cars have had chrome exhaust tips/trims etc... which i've cleaned up with brasso but i've not had one with a stainless exhaust tip like my IS300 LE has, so how do i go about bringing it back up to a nice looking finish again???

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Dave.

Hi Dave,

A friend of mine who's won awards for car preparation at classic car shows says he always uses 0000 grade steel wool and metal poish on stainless steel exhaust ends. Did it on mine and it was fine.

I've used Braso liquid in the past and it's come up trumps.

Hmmmm i've already got some brasso from cleaning the Chrome exhaust trim on my old car.

Would the Brasso be as good as the autosol??? Are they the same sort of thing???

Cheers

Dave.

I found that Autosol worked better at removing the 'heavier' deposits on the exhaust.....

You can always then keep it clean and shiny with the Brasso [it also works very well on the headlights!!! ;) ]

Bought some autosol and a selection of steel wool from Halfrauds today and have cleaned up the exhaust. Must say it's come up an absolute treat and looks as good as the day it left the factory. :)

Thanks again guys. :winky:

Cheers

Dave.
