Whats It Worth Is200 New Owner

Hi

I am looking to buy a IS200 after having a string of cars in the last few months and always fancied a IS200 !

I have seen a Silver IS200 Sport 99 on a T plate in silver. The car has no service history, apparently the last owner lost it during a house move, the car has 6 months MOT and no advisories listed. Done 81k, the DVLA History check only shows 1 MOT the current one no others listed ???

I understand it will need a service and cambelt change if I was to buy which will stand me in a few pennies !

The owner wants 2k for it, I feel this is far too much due to no service history, I have been cought out before with a BMW 318 it turned ut to be clocked when checked on the DVLA MOT history check website. Interor looks mint, small dent on the rear quater panel.

What do you guys think shall I put in a cheeky offer or move on and look for another ?

Al

There are plenty for sale at that kind of price - forget it and look for one that does have a decent history.Just my 2p worth. No point in giving yourself the hassle of timing belt right away either - try and get one with receipts to show it has been done too.

Price of the IS200's are dropping like a lead ballon.

I wouldn't pay more than £1000-£1250 for the car you are looking at- service history/invoices is a must regardless of age IMHO, they tell you how a car has been treated in the past by previous owners.

IS200's don't fetch much money nowadays, I traded my 10 year old IS200 in at a Merc Dealer (for a C220cdi Sport) on the weekend- best I could get for it was £1k- that had Lexus service history up to 90,000 miles and the rest was a stack of invoices for servicing carried out at independent garages.

As said, there are better IS200's out there.

I just paid 3.5k for a mint 2002 se on '51 albeit from a dealer (non lexus) has full lexus history inc timing belt. I know that it was expensive but thought it would be worth it for the right car for me.

its down to personal judgement but history will increase its value.
