European Seat Belt Specs

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Please could I ask anyone with an RX400h - 2008 model year for preference - to take a look a their seat belt labels and see if EVERY belt has the "E" mark in a circle with a number code. The number code is not relevant, just the "E" mark.

Only the rear belts on my car have this mark but all belts have the legend "conforms to F/CMVSS209" so I'm wondering if the French DRIRE is going to make me change all my seat belts which could get expensive.

I tried to put an image of the label here but it won't let me so I have posted it in an album in members pictures:

Thanks in advance

David

You might indeed find that the front belts are unique to the US, we fit unique belts to our US "world cars".....not for legislation reasons, for.....and how can I put this delicately, differences between US and rest of world anthropomorphic statistics......the US belts are longer!

The VOSA inspection manual (October 2010) link here lists the text 'conforms to F/CMVSS209' within in on a search, though there's 294 pages and I couldn't make it through them all to find exactly where it is :whistling:

I'm guessing that if they are within the above manual then they will be ok here in the UK so presumably ok under the EU inspection.

Thanks Janey - and for the picture. The standard refers to stitching strength as far as I can tell, there may be other differences in areas like the mountings or pre-tensioners. That's what I'm trying to nail down.

Cheers
