Good Vibrations

My GS with 60k has two seeming unrelated problems.

Has new Michelins fitted on the front at Costco over the weekend. Since then I have had minor steering vibration at 62 - 68. Took it back and got them to redo the balance but it is still there. Never had a problem before.

Also it seems that one or both of my front discs are warped. Vibration on the pedal and steering when braking from speed. The discs were replaced at 36k and am ****** off if they have gone again - Lexus Guildford say that 24k for a set of GS discs is about right!

Any comments?

If it was me, I'd be thinking that if there was no vibration before I got new tyres, and there;s vibration now, then it's gotta be due to the tyres, regardless of what Costco says.

Sadly I think that the discs do seem to warp very quickly on the GS. You can get them skimmed though if they're not too warn, and the warping is covered by warranty provided the discs aren't below their wear limit.

I'd definitely go back to Costco and get them to fix the problem.

There's a good web page here, that explains all about balancing, if you want to be armed with abit more info :)

I suffered terrible balancing problems on my old GS and Lexus technical told me this is fairly common. Their suggestion to solve this was to have the wheels balanced on a stud locating balancing machine as opposed to the ones that use the central spigot. This seemed to cure it. Some of the high performance wheels and tryes specialists have them, and believe it or not some Toyota main agents.

Hope this helps ;)
