Hi going to put a deposit down tomorrow on an 07 gs 450h se-l its done 55000 and seems in good condition. Problem is it is a previous cat d write off in 2008,The price I am paying is £10900. Ive inspected the body work and test drove it and it seems excellent, except the tyre pressure warning light has a fault, this has lit up a red warning light with an exclamation sign in it and on the speedo a warning is given,is this all to do with the tyre sensor or could it indicate another fault? I really love the car but being a cat d and this fault is putting me off a little. Is it worth taking the plunge and am I being over cautious.

My advice is don't do it. The price is far too high for a write off. Keep your money and have another look around. I'd only pay a max of 3500 for that one, amd still be worried.

I guess it all depends on what happened to it and how good the repair is, Cat D is normally only applied due to the cost of repairs not the level of damage and there is normally no marker applied on the log book.

Price seems too high for a Cat D as the price should be at least 25% below a straight model, when it comes to reselling you need to take this into account.

The repair is good rear quarter damage, insurance wrote off due to cost of repair, checked the price on what car and they came up with 17000,so 25% of that is around 10 grand, the repair happened way back in 2008,so I guess problems would of occured by now if there was any.looking on autotrader and eBay high milage lower spec ones are going for 12 grand upwards, planning on keeping for 5 yrs so resale ain't a problem, and getting a good deal on my px,just concerned about the turret pressure warning light, would this cause the red exclamation to light also, thanks for the help if anyone selling the same let me know quick..

If the Lexus uses a similar system to others, the sensor is built into the valve and very easy to damage during a tyre change, why not ask the dealer to rectify the fault as a condition of sale ?.Also the tints need to come off the front windows, too dark and it makes the car a plod magnet !

After doing a vehicle check I have decided against it the final straw was when I found out it had 7 previous owners. This got the alarm bells ringing!! So am now on the hunt again, after driving one and feeling the power and quality id much prefer it over the merc clk 320 sport which was my original choice.

probably best - having said that, my Nissan 200sx had 9 owners in 9 years (didn't spot that when I bought it) - I've now owned it 7 years, tuned/modified it so its giving 40% more powaaaaa, done about 15 track days and no probs.
