Better Wet Grip

Hi,

I am driving a Lexus IS220D and find the current tyres are very bad in the rain (similar to driving on ice!). Could anybody recommend a tyre with good wet grip? I do mainly motorway mileage and do high mileage every month. The current tyres are budget ones which were already on when I collected the vehicle form the dealership.

Thanks.

Hello, personally I think with tyres its a matter of choice and how much you want to or are prepared to spend. You pay for what you get.I have never liked budget tyres so have stayed well clear of them, currently have Continentals on my IS,have in the past also had Bridgestones,Goodyears,Uniroyals,Dunlops,Toyos etc, also had a pair of Falkens on a car I bought, didnt like them in the rain and had them changed. If you cant afford top of the range then go for middle of the range but not budget why compromise grip and handling.Hopefully the tyre reviews should help you in making an informed choice.

What tyres are on at the mo, i found fullruns to be like that, totally lethal in the wet, took them off as not worth the risk, total cr*p

Many of these "budget tyres" are sadly lacking in grip and braking capabilities. Four bits of rubber are your only contact with the road so it pays to fit decent bits of rubber. They are often false economy anyway as they will probably not last for as many miles as a decent tyre. I have found Rainsport1 (now superceded), and Falken FK452, to be excellent over last few years but have now got AvonZZ5 on rear and they seem really good (unlike their predecessor ZZ3)
